Tiny 3D Printed Biobots Could Control Drug Doses

Samuel Sia – a biomedical engineering professor at Columbia University, has invented a 3D printed biobot for releasing controlled doses of drugs from inside the body. This 3D printed biobot can be implanted in the body but it can be controlled outside the body using magnets.
Patients who are being diagnosed with cancer usually take a strong course of chemotherapy as treatment options are generally few in such cases. Chemotherapy sometimes can even harm our body in various ways like nausea, fatigue, hair loss, chronic pain and chances of patients being infertile. Luckily, scientists along with medical practitioner are working hard to invent other effective ways of giving chemotherapy drugs to patients. Hence, this innovative 3D printing method has been developed that also includes fabricating squishy, “clockwork” – micro machines used for releasing drug doses from the body.
